Frequently Asked Questions
General FAQ
Are you a 3rd party nursing agency? No, we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission to provide a free platform that empowers medically complex families and individuals to connect with home health nurses in their area. We are not affiliated with any one nursing agency.
How does Hello Nurze afford to run this site without charging nurses, families, or hospitals? As a nonprofit organization, we rely on the generosity of our donors and sponsors. As well as grants and charitable giving foundations.
Do you sell family or nurse contact information? NO, we do NOT sell any of our user information to 3rd parties.
How does it work? Families and nurses create ACCOUNTS and then create LISTINGS for others on the site to view. Once a nurse and a family connect on the site and feel it’s a good match they must formalize their nurse/family relationship via a 3rd party nursing agency so the agency can do background checks for both parties, verify the family qualifies for the services and ensure the nurse is in good standing. The agency also is responsible for providing the nurse with pay, benefits, and necessary training.
Who can use Hello Nurze? Hello Nurze is a resource available to medically complex individuals/families and nurses throughout the U.S. Families must qualify for caregiver hours that are covered via a 3rd party nursing agency and nurses must be in good standing.
What kinds of nurses or healthcare professionals can make a “nurse” account on the site? Nurses accounts can be created by RN, LPV,LVN, NPs, and CNAs. Hello Nurze requests that the type of certification be clarified within the Nurse listing. It’s also important for family profiles to specify the types of healthcare providers they are approved to have in the home. This helps ensure that healthcare providers at all approved levels of nursing certification know that they can work with the family/individual.
Family FAQ
How much does Hello Nurze cost to use? It is FREE for families and nurses.
Do I have to work with a 3rd party nursing agency after I connect with a healthcare provider on the Hello Nurze site? Yes, our terms of service require families and nurses to work with a 3rd party nursing agency to formalize the nurse/patient relationship. The agency you move forward with is up to you (the family and nurse).
How much information do I need to share on my Listing? You can share as much or as little info as you want. Pictures and patient details help tell your family story and ensure your child is seen as more than just their medical needs or case number.
How can I get our Family Listing featured on the Hello Nurze social accounts? The Hello Nurze team will need a completed Publicity & Media Release Waiver in order to feature your Listing on social media. Email hello@hellonurze.com to request a waiver to complete.
Nurse FAQ
Do I need to have prior home health experience to sign up for Hello Nurze? No, prior home health experience is not necessary to connect with families on the site.
Do I need to already be working with a nursing agency? No, Hello Nurze encourages families and nurses to make direct connections prior to formalizing nursing agency onboarding or other steps. Once a connection is made and you want to move forward, you can then onboard with the family’s agency. If you are working with an agency, there is a field on your listing profile to specify which agency you currently work with and/or prefer.
Can I be hired by a family directly? No, we do not support direct nurse to family hiring. Hello Nurze requires nurses and families to FORMALIZE their nurse/patient relationship via a 3rd party nursing agency. Your 3rd party agency is responsible for providing you (the nurse) with pay and benefits. The agency will also be responsible for running background checks for both parties (verify the family qualifies for the services and ensure the nurse is in good standing, etc).
Can I work with more than one family on the site? Yes, but your 3rd party nursing agency will be able to formalize your nurse/family relationship with each of the families. Note, each family might be working with a different agency and you’d be responsible for formalizing the details of your employment (onboarding, training, salary/benefit negotiations, etc) with each of the agencies.
The following questions will need to be answered by your family and/or 3rd party nursing agency: Who decides my schedule? Do I need to wear scrubs? How much do I get paid? Will I receive an orientation and/or training before working with a family? What happens if I need to call in sick or cannot show up to a scheduled shift? Do I have the ability to pick up overtime? Will I receive travel reimbursement for commuting to a family’s home?
Hospital FAQ
How much does it cost for hospitals to join the Hospital Partnership Program? It is FREE. Hello Nurze does not charge a fee for hospital partners.
Is this resource focused on taking nurses AWAY from our hospital staff? Not at all. Your hospital team should share this resource directly with medically complex families so they can connect with nurses in their local communities. Many of the medically complex families that use Hello Nurze live outside of major cities or in rural areas, and have traveled to higher-level hospitals for the quality of care that their children require. For these families, there is usually very little overlap in the hospital and in-home health nursing pools. These families are also often the ones who struggle the most to find nursing via the standard 3rd agency system.
What other hospitals are part of the Hospital Partnership Program? The list is continuing to grow but as of early 2024 we were partnering with top pediatric hospitals throughout the nation including: Children’s Hospital Colorado, Seattle Children’s Hospital, Stanford Lucile Packard Children's, Children's Health Dallas, Monroe Carell Children’s Hospital, La Rabida, University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital, Oregon Health & Science University Doernbecher Children's Hospital, and so many more.
How/where are other hospital partners sharing Hello Nurze as a resource? Hospital partners are having their care teams share Hello Nurze brochures at the bedside. We've also have hospitals utilizing/requesting marketing materials (posters, tri-fold brochures, business cards, etc) to be placed in family resource centers or to be handed out by discharge coordinators and inpatient case managers as “an additional way for families to connect with potential nursing support”.
How are nurses screened for safety purposes and how do families pay the nurses? The site is just the initial connection point but doesn't replace the agency model. Hello Nurze Terms of Service state families need to go through a 3rd Party Agency to formalize the Patient/Nurse relationship. We do this because the 3rd Party Agency would provide the background check for nurses and ensure families qualify for the services. The Nursing Agency would also train and hire on the nurse formally so they can be paid and receive employment benefits. Hello Nurze is truly just a way for families to extend their search reach and discover local nurses/families that are a great fit.
Does our hospital need a release of information from our families? No, you should not. Since profiles are being created personally by medically complex families/guardians at their own discretion on HelloNurze.com (and not by hospital staff) with the knowledge that the information they are sharing in order to help them connect with a possible nurse is public, your hospital should NOT need a release of information. We’d recommend checking with your legal team just to ensure they don’t require any additional steps specific to your hospital.
How can my hospital join the Hospital Partnership Program? Please reach out to hello@hellonurze.com with your hospital name and best contact info. Include the subject line “Hospital Partnership Program” and so our team can get back to you as soon as possible and help you with the onboarding process.
What is required of partner hospitals within the Hospital Partnership Program? Hospital partners are asked to share Hello Nurze as a resource with their medically complex families in need of nursing. This includes sharing Hello Nurze Family Brochures, adding Hello Nurze to resource libraries, sharing the resource with the appropriate inpatient and outpatient teams (social work, case management, family resource centers, complex care, etc). Hello Nurze does require hospital partners to share one point of contact so that Hello Nurze can direct questions and send brochure replenishment to that individual.
